Keeping it safe - Candle Safety

January 2024

If you've got a Lysh Mon candle, then you already know how important it is to invest in a tested and quality product. However, there are always precautions you can take to keep your home and yourself safe while using your candle. Below we have compiled our top advice for staying safe around candles

Remove Candle Packaging

Although we don't use a lot of packaging, you should make sure to take it all off before lighting the candle. To avoid overheating or the potential for secondary flames, we don't put ornaments inside our candle wax.

Keep it stable

It might sound really obvious but make sure your candle is on a stable, sturdy, and heatproof surface before lighting. It's preferable to use a protective mat or dish to shield any surface from heat. Make sure there are no combustible items, such as paper or soft furniture, near your candle. Keep pets and young children away from candles in order to prevent accidents if you have inquisitive pets or young family members.

Burning time

When you receive your Lysh Mon candle, you'll notice that the wick has already been cut to the right size. Make sure to trim your wick to the same size after every burn. This will improve your candle's performance and reduce sooting.

With your first burn, make sure that you allow three hours for a full melt pool. Once this has occurred then extinguish and allow to cool naturally.

Make sure that you do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Don't move once lit

While burning, avoid touching or moving your candle, and keep it away from open windows and draughts.

Attended at all times

Don't leave your candle unattended while burning.

Furries, Feathers & Little People

Candles can attract attention, especially from inquisitive pets and children. Keep out of the reach of both, and remember, animals can suffer allergies too, so if you are concerned consult your veterinary practitioner before purchasing any scented candle.

Damaged Jar

If you notice any cracks or you've dropped your jar, discard. A damaged jar is prone to breaking when it comes into contact with heat from a flame.

Lysh Mon Testing

Now that you know how to keep a safe candle, let us give you some insight into what we do to ensure we create the safest candle possible for you to enjoy in your home.

Each of our candles has been heat, wick, and burn safety tested. This includes both periodic testing and testing after a batch of our candles is produced. This enables us to monitor soot, burn quality, and suitability before it reaches our customers' homes.

Our candle vessels are certified for candle use, which means they have been heat tested and are suitable for candle use. We were astounded by the number of candles on the market in inappropriate containers. If you're unsure, DON'T!

We are proud to adhere to CLP standards.
